This needs to be re-released back in the theatres

I heard that this is FINALLY coming out on DVD soon, but in the meantime,I would love to see this classic 1959 film from Otto Preminger again on the big screen re-released back into the theatres in a newly updated version of the film with a director's version of this completely restored and shown in glorious 70MM with full Dobly Stereo Sound--the way it was meant to be seen!

In Widescreen Panavision and Magnificient Technicolor!

BRING THIS BACK INTO THE THEATRES FOR ITS 45TH GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY!!!

And for those who have never heard of Dorothy Dandridge or Pearl Bailey, this is a opportunity to go to the theatres and see this once in a lifetime event!
Two of the greatest Black Actresses of their day......Worth Seeing!
Along with Sidney Poitier,Brock Peters,Ivan Dixon,Diahann Carroll,and the great
Sammy Davis,Jr. in the roles of a lifetime!

Worth seeing on the big screen!

I have to agree with you.I saw this film when it was released back in the late

50's.I was impressed by it as a youngster. If other classic film's sound track

can be remastered and it's picture quality enhanced with today's technological

advancements and brought back to the big screen? Why not"Porgy And Bess"?

Is there any reference you can share on the upcoming release of it on video?

Where did you hear that they are finally going to put this on DVD. I have been waiting over 30 years. If this is true did you here how long before it is done. I would love to purchase a copy of this movie..

by Mizpawleen: I have been looking for this movie for 25 years or more. I have seen other versions, but nothing compares to Sammy Davis Jr. as Sportin life, and the rest of the cast including Pearl Bailey and Sidney Poitier.

I hope it's not just a rumor and that it really is coming out on DVD. It's one of the few films I want to own. It's almost too much to hope for that is would be re-released in the theater.

How is the movie? Is the quality good? I would just like to know before I pay $44.

You know, they complain and complain about piracy-but sometimes people are forced into it because of release policies...

That is too true, learmoak. My friend got "Porgy und Bess" 3 wks ago. Don't know how, but she is very, very happy she did!

I have always wanted to see this in a theater...I think it would be amazing but outside the art house circuit, I just don't see a big screen re-release of this film.
