Was she overly tanned in this?

I know she usually has rather fair skin with freckles. But she looks so much like today's women who slather on the orange dye fake tan. It looks so unnatural (especially for a woman who tends to epitomize natural beauty, even when she's made up to be quite glamorous).

Or, I was wondering, was it the colour saturation of the how the film was made at the time? Cary Grant looks kind of tan as well but there isn't that drastic stark contrast. Mostly it's Doris Day's face (vs. her chest) that look over bronzed or something. Too orange and dark, in a shade that doesn't seem to fit her complexion.

Yes, definitely.

She’s always wearing an unflattering hairdo. A lot of the women here clearly loved their ‘dos because most of them became standard old lady hairdos in decades to come.
