Robert Ryan great as a racist.

Watching "Odds Against Tomorrow" and my favorite movie "Crossfire", Robert Ryan who was one of the nice guys of Hollywood played one heck of a racist. From all I have read about him, he was a real stand up man who was well respected and not a racist at all.

Ryan was one of the best and the opposite of so many treacherous characters he portrayed - and a great stage actor as well. One of my Top 10 actors - THE ICEMAN COMETH (his last) - his best.

Check out "And Hope to Die".

And of course, there's Bad Day at Black Rock where Bob plays yet another sociopatic racist with anger control problems. It's a shame that such a fine actor was cast into such a narrow mold most of the time and rarely got to play more diverse characters, like he did in The Proud Ones or The Secret Fury, for instance. I actually like him more in films like that and Born To Be Bad where he gets to play more mellow normal guy characters that don't have murderous and destructive tempers.

No one sneered better than Ryan.

For me, Ryan will always be the King of Noir and RKO the greatest Noir studio.

The sense itself was I.
