"You've been sniffing around lookin' for a hole in the fence……."

Slater came back viciously at Burke for bringing up Slater's rap sheet with, "You've been sniffing around lookin' for a hole in the fence just like everybody else…." Perhaps that was Slater's way of justifying his criminal ethos. He has to believe that everyone is looking for a shortcut to easy street and he's no worse than everyone else.
