Characters Linked (Spoilers)

Note at the beginning of the film, a bunch of little black kids are running down the sidewalk. One of the unintentionally runs into Robert Ryan. Ryan picks the girl up and says something like, 'Watch yourself you little pickininni, you're gonna hurt yourself,' then puts the kid down and she runs off. Later in the film, Harry Belafonte picks up HIS daughter, in much the same way, but with affection and good humor, because he taking her to the zoo or the park. When the three men go to Melton to pull the bank heist, we see each on, alone, isolated, but their character revealed. Belafonte sees a little baby doll in the muddy bay; Ed Begley is whittling or tossing stones; and Robert Ryan true to form, sees, takes aim at, and intends to kill a rabbit with his shotgun. It would not have changed the out come of the story, but why didn't they simply get more sets of car keys? (Also recall that Belafonte gave up HIS car keys to his ex-wife, before he left for the Melton rendezvous. Hand it to Robert Wise, a good director, knows how to deepen a story. Not for nothing was he the editor of Citizen Kane!
