Sublime Audrey

Audrey Hepburn so gracious in person, so magnificent on the screen was sublime as Sister Luke. Nominated for the Oscar along with Elizabeth Taylor and Kate Hepburn both for Suddenly Last Summer, Doris Day for the wonderful Pillow Talk lost to Simone Signoret for Room At The Top. All great performances but I would have voted for Audrey Hepburn.

She was amazing, breathtaking, one of her finest performances I think and her character was so human and likeable too.

That was a tough year at the Oscars, yet I too would have preferred to see Audrey Hepburn win. I also would have chosen Juanita Moore over Shelly Winters.

The Nun's Story was nominated for eight Oscars and won none. Ben Hur was unbeatable both in chariot and in the Academy's ballroom. Yes, a year of many great films and performances.

There aren't enough superlatives to describe Audrey Heoburn's performance in this film. I was completely caught up in her story.

Beautifully directed and written, with a magnificent cast. It's a perfect film. TCM shows The Nun's Story frequently, giving new generations the chance to view this great movie.

Her best role, in my opinion

She is WONDERFUL in this. I'm not a fan. I agree with Emma Thompson, who doesn't like Audrey Hepburn's work and describes her as having too much whimsy, too twee, too precious and fake. I agree. I watched this waiting for that Audrey to surface. It never did. Instead I saw an actress who, I felt, understood this role completely, and did a stellar job. Not a false note. Fred Zimmerman is also a wonderful director. The best, the most intelligent director of "epics". He gets the epic sweep, while keeping the human side, and his movies are intelligent. This movie is terrific. You feel as if you're living the life with the characters. Audrey Hepburn is a movie star, but in this, she comes across as the nun she's playing. Excellent movie, excellent performance. Rooted for her all the way.
