DVD re-release, Blu-ray release, from VCI 6/5/12

As part of its continuing series of films from The Rank Organisation, VCI is releasing North West Frontier on DVD ($14.99 retail) and Blu-ray ($19.99) on June 5, 2012.

VCI is releasing the film under its American title, Flame Over India (the cover also gives the original title, inaccurately and in small letters, as "The North West Frontier"). Whether the film itself has the US or original UK title we won't know until we see it. The other Rank DVDs from VCI have used each film's original title.

Update: The VCI print is of the film under its original title, North West Frontier. But the question is why VCI labeled the film under its American title, Flame Over India, for the cover in the first place. They haven't done this with any of their other Rank films with different US titles, all of which have been released under their original UK titles. This is just plain weird, especially since they then had to put in an extra notation on the DVD that the print being used has the original title.

Also, the letterboxing is peculiar: the film is in its proper 2.35:1 aspect ratio, but it's set against an odd background, as if it were being projected onto a screen which in turn is set against the so-called "black bars" of a widescreen format. This is very distracting and inexpicably pointless. The superior MGM disc had no such issues. End update.

This film was originally released on DVD as North West Frontier by MGM in 2009, and is now out of print. NWF is one of several Rank films previously issued on DVD by MGM, now no longer available, being re-released by VCI. However, this is the film's first release on Blu-ray. No extras are included on either disc.

The VCI Blu-ray has the U. K. title "North-West Frontier". It's a pretty good BRD and presents the movie in the correct aspect ratio.

Yes, but the VCI release has some issues. I've been meaning to note these in my amended OP and have just done so. I think the MGM DVD was better, though of course if you want Blu-ray the VCI disc is your only option.
