Criminally overdue for a remake! (Cast Idea)

Been watching this film since I was a kid (a PBS staple), and if this had only come out in the 80's or 90's, it would have swept the oscars like The English Patient. :)

A remake MUST happen!

Here's my ideal cast:

Capt. Scott: Ralph Finnes
Catherine Wyatt: (not sure)
Van Layden: Ben Kingsley
Bridie: Ian McKellen
Gupta: (not sure, but a prominet East Indian actor)
Lady Windham: Maggie Smith, Judi Dench
Peters : Richard E. Grant
Sir John Wyndham: Charles Dance, Geoffrey Palmer

Finnes, Kingsley and Grant are MUSTS. I can't imagine anyone better in those roles. McKellen would just be cool to see.

Why do a re-make? Why not make a film from some of the Jim Corbett or Kenneth Anderson books? Something new would be great. I feel that a re-make would detract from the original.

Here in Melbourne Australia, "North West Frontier" has been theatrically rereleased last month (September 2007) in one of this city's biggest theatres, The Astor. I don't know if this will be occurring on a worldwide basis, but it seems that this studio may be one of the few smart ones in realizing that you would probably make more money by reissuing an old movie with the right publicity rather than spending hundreds of millions of dollars with a lousy remake that makes the old movie look great!

I strongly suspect the 1959 movie's reputation is such that a theatrical reissue is worth the risk and I hope it pays off--this was a common practice in the years before home video, but other than refurbished special editions of movies like "Star Wars", they haven't gone through the roof, box office wise. I hope this takes off in other countries, like the UK and in the States as this is a terrific movie and hasn't dated whatsoever.

personally I would hate a remake.i love this movie and easily makes my top 10 favourite films.i cant help but think that if a remake was made in the world we live today the main plot of saving the boy would become a sub plot to a film with an anti british empire message.then we get into how do they make a film that does not cause offence to muslims or any other religions.a new modern would become far to pc.so best leave it to this wonderful original

The very suggestion to do a remake of this classic is, to my mind, criminal.

Would it be PC anti-imperial bigotry - as I fear?
