What other film has Toshiro Mifune dressed up as a woman, eight-headed dragons drunk on sake and people getting eradicated by lava streams? None I tell you. An ambitious and enjoyable film with some good effort put forth. Combine all of this with some stunning shots of the landscape, creative special effects and a constantly forward-moving plot and you have quite the experience. Recommended.

Indeed, I watched with some trepidation having been bored and annoyed by Buddha (1961), but this is a whole different kinda thing; as different as Shinto and Buddhism, I suppose.
Very entertaining and since I know nothing of Shinto I see a lot of elements that seem like Greek or even Norse mythology.
