Kaji and Yinoda in the Mardhland

For anyone else who has seen it at Film Forum or has perhaps read the book. The scene where Kaji and Yinoda run after the deserter and fall in the water: was that supposed to be quicksand? Part two was great, but this one scene seemed misdirected. It just looked as if they fell into a large puddle and were splashing and thrashing around, where they could easily have stood up. Certainly nothing life threatening. Any ideas here?

Yes, that environment wasn't convincing. I felt the same way...WIthout spoiling the rest of the trilogy...so much awaits. The conclusion and summary of the trilogy is mind-blowing.

Actually if You watch it again, standing up would of had the ground swallow you up.

If you watch when they grab at the land above water it crumbles almost to their touch which is why it was hard for them to pull themselves out. Now soak that land in water and try standing in it, you would not only sink into the land but the soil itself would act as a vice clamping on to you and most likely holding you under water until you drowned. Your only chance in that situation is to try and keep your body flat like they were and not touch the bottom. It is similar to quicksand.

Of course in NYC around the Film Forum that type of danger would not exist but it is real and people have died in similar situations. Its only unconvincing if you have no idea what you are talking about.
