Is this anything like 'The Thin Red Line?'

I just saw the trailer and it really seems like it.

"We played with life and lost." - Jules et Jim, François Truffaut.

No its not, similarities would be pretty vague. They are both slower, contemplative films but the whole feel of each film is completely different. I think the general message (aside from war is bad) is also quite different, but that is probably to be expected given the differences in time and culture for each respective film.

Not in anyway whatsoever.

As far as western films go, I think it's somewhat thematically close to Kubrick's Paths of Glory (and a few scenes are similar to Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket), and by extension, the excellent TV series, "The Wire.'' I have yet to see David Lean's The Bridge on the River Kwai, but the subject matter seems like it could be at least superficially similar.
