is there a worse script than this?

Absolutely the pits. the entire project is an embarrassment.

my favorites are Harlow and Garbo. I guess I'm just an old fashion guy

I thought the love story was pretty bad, the story with Reynolds and the Kachins was good. Too bad more of the movie couldn't have focused on them instead of Reynolds and Carla.

It's a bit campy (a "glam" war film?), but hey, it's got tons of snappy dialogue throughout. Check out the memorable quotes:

When initially watching it, I didn't realise it was apparently conceived as a Rat Pack war film. Bad move IMO and I have no idea how John Sturges got caught up in it. The whole Kachin rebels thing became a sideshow to the rather embarrassing romance between Reynolds and Carla. Pity that such a good cast ended up being wasted on such an average story and production.

You are so correct. I was able to get about a third into the film then I just couldn't take any more of this train wreck. I rarely bail on a film, especially one with a cast like this. But with such horrible dialog, jerky pacing, night jungle set lighting that seemed to be done by the guys who light up NASCAR tracks, and Gina's alien-looking makeup, I just couldn't stomach any more of it.

The film also could have used a technical consultant, but I guess the bar bill for this film was too high for them to afford one. But with the dialog as written and performed, that missing bit wouldn't have made any difference in this stinker.

The script is fine . . . it conveys over to the audience what the story is all about in an appropriate manner . . . I thought it was magnificent . . .

What was the story about?

A loose and worse remake of From Here to Eternity.

Its that man again!!

Yes, I agree with you wholeheartedly---Gina is a pleauure to look at . . . I like the movie so I'm terribly biased . . . as for the really story? Well, how 'bout who was the real enemy in WWII? There's more to this film thn than meets the eye!
