Have you noticed the link "Movie connections" in the left column? It takes you to a list of sequels, prequels, films that reference this one and films referenced in this one.

There is another book which has never been filmed THE MOUSE ON WALL STREET in which Grand Fenwick almost singlehandedly destroys the US. Why not? They've already defeated us in a war and beaten both us and the Russians to the moon!

The movie would be very timely because it involves getting people to stop smoking and chew gum instead.

But who could you cast today as the Grand Duchess and her ministers? Judi Dench and Joan Plowright are great actresses. but how could they ever take Margaret Rutherford's place or Sellers?

reply

How about going back to the original books, where the Duchess Gloriana is young, blonde, and beautiful? Even in the later entries in the series she is no more than forty-ish, and considered one of the great beauties of Europe. The two films, while fun in and of themselves, really did the books and characters a disservice. Only Count Mountjoy has been portrayed as written.

Books in the series:

Beware The Mouse
The Mouse That Roared
The Mouse On The Moon
The Mouse On Wall Street
The Mouse That Saved The West

Really. They wanted a beautiful actress, probably for box office reasons, almost all movies have one or more attractive actresses just to bring in people. Fair enough, but why not make Gloriana the babe, instead of giving Kokintz a daughter?

I had the great good fortune of visiting with the series author (Leonard Wibberly) a number of times. His characters are so lovable and loving but what else can you expect, since he was also lovable and loving himself. He was a dear sweet man who comes along only every not so often. He wrote other books beside the Mouse series. I highly recommend them all.
