The 1958 World Series

That happens to be my favorite World Series of all time and I found it interesting to note that it was referenced in this movie!

reply

Why is it called the world series when only America plays in it?

reply

I'm afraid you'll have to ask the major league baseball bigwigs about that!

reply

It's named after the original sponsor which was a newspaper with the title of "World."

reply

And I should also like to add that it's been called the World Series for over 100 years now so I can't see them changing that anytime too soon!

reply

Huh, I'd never heard that before, but it makes sense!

reply

Yankees overcame a 3-1 series deficit to beat the Braves, by the way. Damn Yankees!

reply

That's right which is precisely why they reached the pinnacle of their greatness and success because at that point in time they had beaten every team in the National League in at least one World Series.

reply

Why do they have a Miss Universe pageant when Earth women are the only ones allowed to compete in it?

reply

i'm sure we would consider thier application as and when the alien races submit them, unless they're total munters...

Why quote other people when I like the sound of my own voice?

reply

Galgamex?

reply

Why do they call it the World Series, when it's always played in the Bronx?

If you only knew the power of the Dark Side!

When the American League formed and it was decided to have a series of games to decide a champ, the idea was that the US did not have a national sport for other countries to emulate. So, the baseball officials figured if they had a big game, then the world would take them serious. They decided to call it the World Serious. Later, due to sponsors and the inability of the poor to pronounce such a long word, they shortened it to World Series.

Facts are expensive. Snarky comments are free.

My memory foam pillow says it can't remember my face. I can tell its lying.

reply

I wasn't aware of that--thanks for that tidbit of information!
