That's because his character is called Lon. Tommy Cook's character is called Gary (not "Gene" as somebody here claimed).

It is a bit confusing when the first name of one character is the same as the real first name of an actor playing someone else, but there is no mistake here.

Gary Clarke plays Lon. Tommy Cook plays Gary. Simple.

The best way to learn the truth is very basic: watch the movie.
