The Last Mile

Does anyone know how one can find this 1959 prison movie starring Mickey Rooney. I have been trying to find it for years. I wonder if it even exists. It has not been shown on AMC or TCM or any other movie channel. It is not available in any format and it has not appeared on Ebay.

I would appreciate any comment at all.

Thank You

I was just about to ask the same question. Whatever happened to the original and why wasn't it ever made into a VHS? I can only speculate, but I fear that the original may have been lost in that big fire at the warehouse in Hollywood where many classic movies were stored. But, I would still tend to believe that Mickey Rooney himself might have a copy stored somewhere. I would greatly appreciate someone with a copy of this great movie to contact me.

If you get America One Television, which oftentimes sharea air time with local stations, "The Last Mile" is going to air on December 6, 2005, at 1:30 a.m.

You can access America One Television at www.americaone.com. They also have contact information if you wish to inquire about the movie.

I have an old TV copy of it on VHS. I recorded it from a local TV station which I was fortunate to see and lucky me it was one of those special showings without commericals (commericals were at the beginning and the end) and it was back in the days before they started putting station logos on the TV screen.

The only problem is that back then I didn't want to buy a new blank for each movie I recorded so it was piggybacked with two other movies, Casbah and Face of Fire. All were in B&W so even EP isn't all that bad.

Anyway, if your interested maybe we can do something. Repost here and I will keep tract of this thread.

I taped it off of WGN myself about 25 years ago & the tape (EP speed) is starting to go unplayable with it's age. Haven't seen it on TV since.....

I haven't got (because I can't afford) pay-TV, but tonight I was surfing the -2 (dash-2) channels from my local air stations and I was amazed to find 'The Last Mile' on one of these channels (St. Louis, Missouri, Channel 11-2, "THIS TV" is the network - amd until tonight I'd never heard of THIS TV newtork).

Until tonight I'd never seen 'The Last Mile' and it's a superb example of the long-gone hard-boiled school of crime film. Mickey Rooney is wild in this one!

Goof spotted: when characters discharge shotguns and Thompson submachine guns no empty cartridge cases are ejected.

Came in from work, then caught the last half of it on TCM.

Mickey Rooney is one of those actors you either like or can't stand; I belong in the first class! I think somehow his free-wheelin' life style in his younger days and the resultant suffering he'd brought upon himself must have put a new edge into his acting talent. Amazing performance! Very reminiscent of James Cagney at his most menacing, as in "White Heat" or "The Public Enemy."
