Very unfaitfull to the book, but otherwise an ok movie...(spoilers)

But come on, Atlantis!?!
There was really no need to add that..
The original story offered so much, yet they had to add a female companion, Saknussem's relative, a goose ?!? (although I must admit the goose was cool) and **Atlantis**?

On the other hand they left out a lot of things. They haven't even explained why there was a sky over the ocean even though there is a great (scientific) explanation in the book, made by Jules Verne.

If I haven't read the book I would probably find this to be an excellent movie.

Read the book! It's a masterpiece! And Jules Verne is one of the best writers in human history, so I suggest for you all to try and read some of his books, I guarantee, you'll be fascinated...

I read the book years ago, but I don't recall the explanation for the sky above the underground ocean. Can you tell me?

I don't think there was a sky over the subterranean sea, it looked like a huge domed roof above (a matte painting) it's easier to see in some scenes than others, depending on the screen resolution.

And of course, a faithful adaptation of the book would have made a better movie... about 40 hours long. ;)
