WHAT?

Just how stupid is Glenn Ford's character? They've been married for a very short time, and he thinks her surprise news is that she's pregnant. She says the surprise is due in a week, ten days,or maybe tomorrow. He says:Oh wow, that's wonderful? He doesn't say:Why are you telling me that "I'M" going to be a father then? He doesn't say:Who's kid is it?
It seems to me that later on in their marriage, she'll be able to convince him of ANYTHING.lol

Oh wait....she's none too bright either. His friends ask her if she's got a cake in the oven and she doesn't understand. The friend then says: An Airman if it's a boy and a WAC if it's a girl, and she STILL doesn't understand??? Holy moley!lol

The script does account for that by having her take offense when she discovers that he thought that she was pregnant. She says that he must have thought that it was someone else's because it must have happened before they met.

He's not stupid at all. He reads the letter and thinks it sounds like a baby but he knows it couldn't be that. He asks his friend what he thinks to see if maybe he was reading it wrong. Then he asks his friend's wife to get a woman's perspective. Based on her words, none of them could imagine it being anything other than a baby.

When she says 'it' could arrive in a week, ten days or tomorrow, he's elated because he knows it's not a baby she's referring to. He still doesn't know exactly what she means but he's satisfied for the time being. The movie is very sexually charged. I'm sure once that issue is off his mind he goes back to thinking about making babies not having them.

When his friend brings it up, he's trying to get him to shut up because it's no longer an issue. Naturally, he wouldn't want her to know that thought had ever crossed his mind. He also wouldn't have wanted her to know he shared her letter with other people.

He's stupid for selling the car for 17,500. He could have easily gotten more than enough to pay the tax with plenty left to buy another and have some extra. It's always a pet peeve of mine when people in movies throw money away. That behavior is so unrealistic especially in this case when he knows his bride has expensive taste.
