Difficult to take it very seriously, based on the premise

As much as I wanted to get into this movie, it was hard to take it very seriously from the get-go. The "bad guy" in the film is Dr. Paul Lujan (Alan Napier), who has apparently fled civilization for the comfort and safety of a secret, uncharted island somewhere out in the South Pacific. His reason for hiding away seems to be based on personal guilt over his involvement with some sort of scientific research some years back that helped yield the atomic bomb (ne mentions Nagasaki several times, with regret). Now, on his secret island, he occupies himself with monkeying around with nuclear fission in a makeshift laboratory that he built himself.

I suppose he could be a candidate for "mad scientist"... only problem is, a true mad scientist usually has some purpose (and usually a diabolical purpose at that) to all of his scientific experimentations. But in the case of Dr. Lujan, he appears content to just stay anonymous on his island with his three lovely daughters, never planning on mixing with civilization again, never really bothering anybody. IOW, there's no real threat from the guy.

Enter the two stranded fliers, one of whom, Mark Bradley (Jeff Richards), is a recognized newspaper reporter, and suddenly you have this "drama" based on the newsman insisting on "outing" the harmless scientist guy once they get back to the real world - for no other reason than, well, that's what newsmen do.

So, the entire movie revolves around the two stranded fliers trying to find a way to escape the island - not just to make it back to civilization, but also so that Mark Bradley can "out" an essentially harmless, albeit eccentric, scientist. (The more I think about it, it seems like the newsman was the real "bad guy" in the movie.)

Sorry, but there's no real drama in that. You're better off watching the first James Bond film, Dr. No, which featured a bona fide mad scientist type on a secret island who really was a threat to global peace and tranquility: Dr. No was a part of SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion), seriously out to cause harm and disruption.
