Film censored?

What censorship would this film be back in '59 as it showed some nudity, and some strong sexual double meanings with the girl character. Was it an 18 equalivent in today's standards?

Originally it was rated "U" (universal), ie suitable for all audiences. My 90's VHS copy has the same rating.

The current Optimum Releasing UK DVD is rated "PG" (parental guidance) but as the BBFC website says the movie is still rated "U" I presume this is due to "PG" rated bonus material.

The nudity is brief, comical and non-sexual while the double entendres are, well, double entendres and would go over the head of most children and young teens watching. As such there really isn't anything to stop it getting a "U" rating, especially when you consider films with far more (and moderately sexualised) nudity such as Amadeus (director's cut), Carry On's England & Behind, Merchant of Venice and Barry Lyndon have also been rated "PG" for their respective DVD releases.
