shareThe song is Bonnie Blue Flag. The flag bearing the single star was originally The Republic of West Florida then in revolt against Spain, 1810. Later Texas and Mississippi adopted the single star in a blue field. By the time of the Civil War the flag and the new song of the same name were adapted by the CSA in general. The song was a popular marching tune and the flag represented states rights without the slavery baggage of the stars and bars.
