This movie doesn't FEEL like a Ford picture

I'm a huge John Ford fan but this movie has always seemed to lack that Ford flair.

Anyone agree or am I not looking close enough?

There's early Ford and latter Ford. Unfortunately this does feel like latter Ford. The directer seemed to lose it after "Mr.Roberts." I'm not a fan of his calvery films being to cliche ridden and make-work for his stock company.

It doesn't have the impact of The Searchers or Liberty Valance, but it's enjoyable in the way Fort Apache or Rio Grande are.
