Keyword: Annoying!

In one respect, this is Frank Capra's most amazing film. I have never seen a movie where every main character is absolutely, positively annoying! How did Capra manage this? There are lots of movies with one or two annoying characters, but the whole cast? Amazing! If these people were real, would you care about any of them? I highly doubt it.

I'd care about the kid and Eleanor Parker's character. Otherwise I agree with you completely.

Yeah...me too!!

I didn't find Eleanor Parker's character annoying, in fact, she was the only reason I decided to watch it. But she was hardly in it, and honestly the film was truly boring.

I have; 'Little Miss Sunshine.'

Thank God for fast forward and DVR! I thought I was going to like this because the opening song was great and the cast was solid. But they just kept blathering on and on. What a waste! After Frank spent an eternity with Carolyn Jones going nowhere I just fastforwarded to High Hopes which was cute but not worth enduring the rest of this stink burger.

reply

er... um... "stink burger"??

I applaud you. Great euphemism. I may borrow... no, I'll change it. "Stink on rye"? Or "home-style stink"?

You inspire me. Thank you.

I didn't make up stink burger. But now I have to obsess about it until I remember where I heard it. It's from a movie or from Seinfeld I think.

"Stinkburger" is indeed a colorful expression and, regrettably, it is not far off the mark in describing this movie. I first heard the term used by Joseph Bologna in My Favorite Year.

Watched it with my Main Squeeze last nite...Certainly a PP...(Period Piece) I wish Cousin Itt would have shown up- wouldv'e livened things up! Wasn't a Horrid movie...but don't think I'll ever see it again.

Once was more than enough for me as well. I don't mind when the entire cast is unlikable in a film noir, but I wouldn't mind a few sympathetic characters in a comedy. 6/10 stars from me.

It should have been a criminal offense to (mis)use the great Thelma Ritter and Edward G. Robinson in such a lackluster movie!

reply

I agree, I can't believe how well received this movie is! Perhaps it was the song "High Hopes?"
