In the beginning, after Chip went over the cliff, Mel Torme's character drives really, really fast and recklessly back to town to confront Silver. How the hell idd her little sister get home before him?! Did she have a teleporter?! I doubt she had the keys to Chip's jag, so how'd she accomplish it...

she ran off while mel was still in his car, it took him a while to make it over to the cliff and then to realize that chip was dead. then it took him a while to put 2 and 2 together that it was silver.

with all of that and the shortcut that little sister knew it is really pretty simple.
