Kahuna!

Yeah, he was a stud. :)

Live, live, live! Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death!

reply

I agree!! He was hot!

reply

Was he going to rape gidget?

reply

I always thought that he was just trying to scare her, so she would know how silly she was being...
i dunno though...

reply

He definitely wasn't planning on actually doing anything...it was all just a big ploy since he knew she was into Moondoggie. The Kahuna was a beach bum not a dirtbag.

I'm no cruddy sponger

reply

Well, she pretty much went there on purpose to get seduced, then had second thoughts. He knew better, but he got a little drunk. Fortunately she ran away before anything really happened.

And yeah... Kahuna = major hunk!

For some reason I loved the part where he and Moondoggie were punching each other.

reply

No way, he was trying to scare her and I don't think he thought she'd actually let him, though she almost did.

reply

I did'nt see...was she 18? lol

reply

Kahuna had no intentions of doing anything with Gidget. As noted above, he was just toying with her to make her realize she really wanted to be with Moondoggie. If you notice, Kahuna also tries to dissuade the guys from trying to emulate him -- he was a good guy all around, looking out for the best interests of the kids.

reply

i thought that moondoggie was much cuter but he wasn't that bad looking either. i just didn't like his surfing pants almost up to his chest. idk it was kind of a turn OFF

reply

hahaha i agree, big turn off.. kahuna was cute, but he was NO Moondoggie =)

reply

oh Kahuna was way cuter than Moondoggie.

reply

That was the style in those days.

reply

Yeah, I agree...I would do the Big Kahuna any day. ;) Too bad he wasn't in any other Gidget movies...although the 2 sequels kinda sucked. Lol.

reply

He was a complete stud. And then I saw him in, "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken," and it took me YEARS to realize that's who it was. He played Dr. Carver. When I did realize, I thought, "EEEWWWW - he didn't age well AT ALL!"

reply

yeah kahuna was hot...i think moondoggie was too though

btw, kahuna was uncle ben in spiderman, had no idea...doesnt look like him at all

reply

Moondoggie was a cute boy...but Kahuna...what a man! By the way, did you notice that Kahuna plays Uncle Ben Parker in Spider-man!? He's a legend and his popularity is reaching a new audience. It's amazing.

reply

Moondoggie was sooo the hottest!

Both men in my opinion were really sexy.

oh my God! i could not LOOK at the big kahuna without wincing, particularly in those cheap surfing process shots in which he sported the big straw hat and the little cigar against painfully swinging background music. i love gidget, moondoggy, the movie, the beach, the parents, but the big kahuna embarrasses me every time.

reply

I think Moondoggie was cute, but Kahuna was sexy as hell!

reply

I was thinking Stinky (Joby Baker) was a major babe!!! Kahuna was hot too. Moondogie was a little too squeaky clean for my taste.

reply

I agree with misscsquared, Kahuna and Stinky did it for me.

reply

Nobody's mentioned Tom Laughlin as Loverboy!!
GREAT build. Who would have ever thought Billy Jack was a beach bum?

reply

Kahuna was a real man with hair on his chest, but the hat was tacky.

Why ain't you at the garden party you heathen?

reply

OK, the pants and the hat was very silly but overall, he was a hottie.

I love that the "Who was hotter, Moondoggie or Kahuna?" argument rages on 50 years after the movie came out. God bless the internet. I say Kahuna. Moondoggie was cute, Kahuna was sexy. I wanted Gidget to go for Kahuna in that beach hut, despite the age difference. I was terribly disappointed when he sent her home. So close! Oh well.

reply

The Gidge had better luck with the big Kahuna in the book. ;)

reply

Have you ever read "Cher Papa", to me the "true" second Gidget novel? Frederick Kohner wrote it before "Gidget Goes Hawaiian" was made.
In this book - written from Gidget's father's POV - Franzie (having dropped the nickname "Gidget") and Cass are a couple.
Moondoggie is mentioned as being the first in a rather long list of love interests. But the first grown up love story is Franzie & Cass. It's a pity they stuck with Moondoggie in the movies. Thus "Cher Papa" fell into oblivion, while Frederick Kohner also continued with Gidget & Moondoggie in his novels.

Lol, I love the debate as well. I love both Moondoggie and Kahuna. They're both very sexy- Moondoggie in a boyish way and Kahuna in a mature, manly way.

reply

I loved the Kahuna.

My choice after him was Loverboy.
