In this were short too! James Darren's Jeff and a few of the other guys on the beach were barely taller than Sandra Dee's Francie. So they were Bidgets! (lol)

Lol "bidgets," that is pretty funny! I thought the same thing when I watched the film.
It's interesting to note though that although Sandra Dee looks very tiny, she was actually 5'4" which was considered tall in the 50's. This might account for why the boys didn't look much taller than her in comparison.
At 5'4", Sandra Dee was too tall to be referred to as a "girl midget," although she was very thin and lacked womanly curves at 16 when the movie was shot.
James Darren, on the other hand, was a full-grown adult at 22 during shooting and was 5'10" & a half, which is hardly short for a guy, then or now. Maybe the angle of the camera made him look shorter, but he wasn't.
