DVD Collection: No widescreen!

They're releasing a DVD collection of the three Gidget movies, but they're making the same mistake they made with "The Trouble With Angels" -- they're only releasing the Pan & Scan (full screen) versions! A disappointment.

My mom bought me the DVD collection for Christmas. It has a beautiful picture and you can see everything. You should definitely buy it.

The disc for the original is no different from the VHS, I can't really compare the other two since I taped them off the television, but they look alright. It would have been nice if they had been widescreen, but it's still worth adding to your collection!

They've shown the first one on AMC in the past, and it was 2.35:1. You lose about 43% of the image with this DVD. I find movies look cramped and awkward when they are cut by even 20%. They should have made the DVD widescreen too.

I won't buy any movies that are re-formatted for TV. I want the whole picture, or what the director and/or photographer intended when they shot it. (Stanley Kubrick shot most of his films in 1.37:1 and that was his preferred ratio.)

They showed it on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) in a beautiful widescreen version. Not that "cramped" dvd version.

Definately a bummer that the films didn't get widescreen release. I haven't seen the second or third films yet (I only bought the set for the first film), but I'm also annoyed by dual sided discs.

The DVD's are not widescreen, but they were only $3.00 at Wal-Mart. So. I think they're worth it for that price.

Sorry, I don't care if stores were giving the movie away. Pan and scan sucks and makes the whole film look awful. I'll wait to see it in all it's widescreen glory on TCM!

I know what you mean! I feel the same way!

I am the movies I love! (^_^)

My sentiments exactly. I confess to being a fan of such late 50s to mid 60s films and have a whole collection on DVD. Even lesser known films like "Ride The Wild Surf", "How To Stuff a Wild Bikini" etc are available on their original Widescreen format and so I cannot understand why GIDGET is not. Even the sequel GIDGET GOES HAWAIIAN is now available on widescreen!

Does anyone know if there is ANY official DVD release (in any language as long as there is an English dialogue option) of GIDGET that is available in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio?
