Jerks....

Why would Gidget put up with so much crap? I mean, even a girl desparate for attention and acceptance would have to draw the line somewhere. If i saw a couple of guys treating someone like that, guy or girl, i think i'd have to rearrange some faces. I thought the Big Kahuna was gonna start breaking some skulls when he saw how the surfers were treating her, but he was like, "oh well I'm a bum." The surfers had absolutely no redeeming qualities (they took advantage of her more money/put her down/even tried coming on to her/etc/etc/etc). Anyone agree or disagree??

I think a lot of it had to do with the male frame of thought back then.

Maybe in the beginning. But, she became one of them. When she had the accident and she was trapped in the kelp, they were very concerned as they sat outside the hut. They bowed down to her and accepted her when they raelized she could surf.

Anyway jerk- like behavior happened early and could be attributed to the male concept of the fifties.

Actually Moondoggie did chase I think it was Loverboy off and warned her off because he thought she was too young for the lessons she'd pick up around there. He also took the place of Stinky, who she had paid to take her to the beach party, because Stinky was going to ask Loverboy, whom a female octopus wouldn't be safe with. So I would pretty much disagree. Also, when the surfers accepted her into their company as a mascott, they were pretty sure they didn't want her at the beach party as they thought of her as too young. Another reason to disagree.

You mean Hot Shot. He's the guy Gidget originally hired to take her to the luau.

She put up with the crap because she wanted to be a surfer. And many groups tend to "haze" new applicants initially. The fact a group of surfers in their 20's even tolerated, then accepted a 16 year-old girl is actually pretty impressive.

They were rough, but ultimately accepting and protective as a group.
