Not a horror movie!

As I just posted in another thread, I'm not sure if this is a Hammer film or not, but if it is, it doesn't "feel" like a Hammer film to me at all. It's not horror, and though there's a wee bit of comic relief here and there, overall it is not "fun" in the way that most horror movies are. I would categorize it as a drama, plain and simple. It's a GOOD movie, but definitely not a feel-good movie, and some scenes are uncomfortable to watch.

And then there's the topless women....

The sex is suggested at a level that's certainly tame by today's standards, but beyond the level of, say, American pre-code movies. Definitely an adult movie all the way around.

It's not a Hammer production. The film is more macabre than horror with black and maudlin humour amidst a pretty horrific tale. The death of Daft Jamie was most disturbing.

A bird sings and the mountain's silence deepens.
