Why no DVD or video?

I remember loving this film when I saw it on television as a child. Given the huge numbers of Kaye fans throughout the world (and also Louis Armstrong come to that) it strikes me as very odd that this film hasn't even made it onto video format!

Does anyone know why, or if there are any plans for it to be transferred in the future?

reply

It actually has been released on video.
But I have to agree with you that it's kind of silly they haven't released it on DVD yet.
I would consider it one of Danny Kaye's best and I just can't figure out why they have yet to release it.
But then again, they haven't even released The Secret Life of Walter Mitty!
Well...maybe they're just waiting for the stupid remake to come out...
Who knows?

They may have VHS copies on Amazon.com, but your best bet would probably be eBay. You may even find a DVD copy that's been transfered from VHS. They aren't official DVDs, understand, but if you find the right seller they should be just as good as an authentic DVD.

I have just read on message board that Amazon are releasing The Five Pennies on DVD in early December. Best news I have heard all year! Spread the word. Alison

The DVD has been released, I have received mine and I am ecstatic! The quality of sound & wide-screen picture for a 46 year-old movie is highly acceptable and I relived the original theatre expeirence I had as a child when first watching this movie.

I have had the DVD version for at least 6 or 7 years now, I think I got it from DeepDiscount.com. I don't think they have it right now, but Amazon does
