one thing that bothered me

Anne frank was 12-15 in real life, and yet the girl who played her was like... 20 something! Th whole movie, as a 14 year old watching it in english class, it was pissing me off. Not to mention the actress was pissing me off w/ her voice. but the guy who played peter was really good (i think he also played tony in west side story)

Beymer was not well-received in WSS, and his film career crashed.

So what? Julie Harris was 27 when she played 12 year old Frankie in The Member of the Wedding. And Mary Martin was 47 when she played Peter Pan.

reply

Well Natalie Wood didn't help, she never said one word to him irl (she had expected an actor like Warren Beatty to play the lead).

I know, her voice is all dreamy and stuff... it was irritating.

yeah i agree about the voice thing...

Anne Frank is in almost every scene of the movie. An actress close to Anne's real age would have been a minor, able to work only four hours per day due to child labor laws. Not only would the movie have taken twice as long to film, but probably she'd be still growing.

The problem? There was no getting around using child actors in, say, The Sound of Music, which is all about children. As they experienced growth spurts during the months it took to film the movie, they had to be fitted with lifts in their shoes so that each child stayed the same height in relation to the others.

The same logistical problem would have occurred with a teenage actress playing Anne Frank.
