Why are there no female leprechauns?

Are they Shakers? If there are no women, then how do they get more of them?

reply

They have sex with our women. JK

Seriously, look up into Celtic mythology!

They're immortal. Also indestructable. If they were to reproduce they'd have an overpopulation in no time. Also, most leprechauns are loners and unlikely to be setting up housekeeping with another individual. OR maybe we just didn't SEE any females. OR perhaps like dwarves, the females look so much like the males that we just didn't recognise them.

Some legends say that leprechauns are defective children of the trooping fairies, or perhaps the offspring of a fairy and a human. Either would certainly explain the leprechaun's traditional cranky outlook.

Me, I love the little guys.

Age old sexism situation. It's an all-male club, women back home cooking meals.

Token females emerged later on. Actually there are many examples of token females early on, such as Dale ARden to Flash Gordon or the like, but these were usually women to be rescued.

Darla on the Little Rascals-Our Gang was the token female.

perhaps best representation around this time was the soon-to-be Fantastic Four, with its brain, muscle, youth and female lineup, as tho youth or brains couldn't be also female.

And Star Trek had it's token female also in its black token, which I recall caused oddities with the Mego dolls in the seventies and a Nurse Chapel doll had to be included.

But Wonder Woman was also the token female in the Superfriends cartoons and of course, Smurfette, created by Gargamel, was the only female Smurf.

Yes, leprecauns and smurfs are mystical, they don't exist, so they don't need a female, but never has their ever really been a mindset to include a female character or characters from the get-go. It's still a man's game.

Three more:

The Warner Bros, Bugs Bunny characters, coming about before Darby O'Gill, have NO female character in their midst. Attempts to add the female bunny later on have all failed.

Charlie Brown and the Peanuts, one of the most peculiar. There are females, but in each instance, it is the male who is more thoughtful and insightful, and the female is more aggressive and stronger.

the Muppets. Miss Piggy is the token female of virtually all muppet characters, including Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock.

Nobody cares about Zoe or Abby Cadaby, whatever it is.

Are you comparing centuries of legend and folklore to the muppets? Are you quite simple?
