science-fiction elements?

Since this movie was featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000, I was wondering if there are science-fiction elements to this movie. Even though the spoofing of exclusively science-fiction movies was not a requirement until the series moved from Comedy Central to the Sci-Fi Network, there were only a handful of movies that were not science-fiction or a related genre. Is this one of them?

Well, he DID make a car fly at the end... does that count?

This makes me want to re-re-re-read "Dick Contino's Blues" by James Ellroy. Where's my copy of 'Hollywood Nocturnes'?
