Sunlight + Crosses

Why is it that this Vampire be able be out in daylight? The final scene took place with the sun fully shining. He also had an an aversion to seeing a CROSS on the preacher's lapel & again at night when he was stalking the preacher - the shadow of the cross on the ground stopped him. BUT there's a scene where he is carrying the leading lady out of the graveyard and walked by a tombstone with a large cross a few inches away on it and he barely blinked an eye. Lots of huge holes in this story ... but it was still silly fun none the less.

Don't forget, vampire lore is in the imagination of the author, or in this case, the screenwriter. In F. F. Coppola's Bram Stoker's, Dracula, and, A. Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the undead get along fine in the sunlight with dark glasses. Apparently Robey couldn't afford them. Also, in the scene where Robey carries the unconcious Delores from the crypt, past the cross, it does not cast a shadow upon him/them.

According to the Wikipedia article, those making this movie borrowed from the European vampire folklore which says vampires can be out in the sun for short periods of time with protection.
As to your point about the cross he walked by, I think that he regarded it as just an object there because there was no one using it against him. In some vampire folklore, they are not afraid of religious objects unless someone is using it against him. At the church, the preacher was there and that might be why Robey was repelled by the cross.
I did not find the movie silly or fun, but I did like it.

How can a condom protect a vampire from sunlight? 

Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded. Yogi Berra

Replying to my post. I do not like the movie anymore. Silly to portray vampires as turning into anything like bats.

Vampires before 1922 Nosferatu - like Dracula - could walk in sunlight.
