DVD?
It's a shame that Les Cousins and Les Amants have not made it to DVD yet...or have they?
shareLes Amants is available on Optimum's "Louis Malle - Vol One" box set. Les Cousins - unaccountably - awaits release on DVD at the time of writing (September 2009). Let's hope Criterion will put this right, with a good commentary (or two), and lots of other extras!
shareBoth Claude Chabrol's "Les Cousins" and "Le Beus Serge" were released by Criterion in beautiful transfers, and it's fun to compare the two since both star the same lead actors but in opposite roles: the relationship between city boy & country boy. Included with "Cousins" is a booklet that contains articles on the film and one by Jean Claude Brialy on his real life friendship with Gerard Blain, who turned out to be a troubled man.
