I first saw this...

back in the mid 1960s on WPIX Channel 11's Chiller Theater out of NYC. A fondly remembered perennial childhood favorite. To my brother, sister and I caltiki was "the bloodsucker" because of that grisly scene where blood is streaming out of the side of Max's mouth.

No, no, no -- it wasn't channel 11, it was channel 9, WOR back then. It first showed up on none other than Million Dollar Movie (16 showings in a week!), and then went the rounds of 9's usual movie shows -- the 5 PM afternoon one, the 9:30 AM one, Super Adventure Theater on Saturdays, all the rest -- some of the shows' names escape me right now, though their terrific theme music's still there. Channel 11 had a lot of great stuff on Chiller Theater, and Zacharly too, but Caltiki was always one of 9's babies.

You also picked the same great scene I did in remembering this movie. On another post here I mentioned that this film is carried by Sinister Cinema in a widescreen print that's complete (Max's mouth et al), and which replaced their former print that unforgivably cut that priceless image. Blecch, as they said in Mad, back when.
