Virginia Leigh: unfortunate ending to her promising start

excellent actress

reply

This wasn't the last thing she did.

One episode of Baretta (1977)
One episode of Starsky and Hutch (1977)
First Love (1977)
Condominium (1980) A pretty good TV disaster movie.
Curtains (1983) Fairly obscure but very good slasher film.

reply

I saw Curtains..in the theatre ,yet.
Don't recall her in it

Virginia Leith was a 'Kubrick Discovery', appearing in his first feature film, FEAR AND DESIRE.

She had potential, but BTWD might have sealed her fate.

reply

Well, I think her fate was sealed before BTWD, or wouldn't have had to make BTWD.If her career was progressing, they would be no reason to.
She was certainly talented enough.

She showed some real promise in 'Violent Saturday' and 'Kiss Before Dying'.

Maybe she wasn't that good at playing the Hollywood Game.

I wonder what became of her.

reply

..and also BLACK WIDOW with Ginger Rogers,George Raft
With a character, ironically, threatening to "break her neck" if she didn't disclose information.

reply

Well, jack Kruschen was in Angry Red Planet the year prior to winning an Oscar(The Apartment).

The Hollywood gods would seem to be capricious!

She married, left her acting career, then returned shortly after her divorce. After Vic Morrow's death, they became very good friends.

Upon the divorce, her husband's brain actually did die and he became a regular cast member and writer on Hee Haw.

That's too bad that her career didn't get any better after the BTWD, because I thought that she did a pretty decent job in this movie, especially since she had to spend most of the film in some weird special special effects device.

What I really can't figure out is how Herb (later Jason) Evers career went ANYWHERE after this.
