Is there another version of this film?

Possible SPOILER:

I remember seeing a movie somewhat like this except the girl goes ahead and has the abortion then dies from complications. It was one of those Saturday afternoon movies and was in Black and White.

There was a film in the early 70s that dealt with the death of a girl from an illegal abortion. I saw it at the theatre when I was in nursing school, so 1973-74. I don't remember it being in B&W, though.

I think you're thinking of the 1974 movie "Our Time" with Pamela Sue Martin, Parker Stevenson, Betsy Slade and George O'Hanlon Jr. It's not B&W but the color is so washed out; on purpose, I presume, to give it a nostalgic feeling.

Actually, whilst there might be another after-school movie with that particular scenario. However, the ORIGINAL Broadway Play, in 1958 had a few "alterations" thanks entirely to the censor board. The dinner scene where the sister shows off her engagement ring, was originally a dinner scene where she's black and blue, beaten for not "putting out." and, of course, the ending, when the boy finally gets the courage to tell people where she went to get the abortion, is shown as they arrive just as Carol Lynley (who also played it on Broadway) dies in the arms of the boy with whom she "made a mistake." There are SO many differences, one could write an entire book on this play to screenplay "conversion" They are essentially completely different works. Censorship and the MPAA since before Martin Dies manifesto to Congress (HUAC 1938) Followed closely by WPA in 1939 - effectively using the right hand to rip off the left hand.
