Book

So I'm currently reading this book right now and was wondering how close the film is to the book? I ordered it on DVD and can't wait to get it!

Well? It's now September 2008. What did you think? I've never read the book, but I've seen the film a few times. Which was better?

The book was far, far superior. That shouldn't be surprising though. They definitly down play Gregg and other matters in the film. You should read the book. Its really good!!

The book is way way better, it captures the era perfectly and the movie in no way does it justice. Read the book, you owe it to yourself.

I loved both the book and the movie - The photography is breath-takingly beautiful and the acting is superb.

And, of course, I LOVE Joan Crawford...

Rona Jaffe was a great author...I've also read her other books...Fortunately, some were brought back in print.

I think they really miscast a lot of people. Including Joan Crawford. What sucks is the censorship back then so you didn't get all of the deep and disturbing aspects as you did when you read the book. I'd say let them remake it but they'd probably put horrible actresses in it. When you watch the movie without reading the book, you really don't get Gregg's madness or why Caroline's depression over her failed relastionship with Eddie. I don't know. I think they could have done a better job if not for the censorship in the 50's. Still enjoyable though.
