1930s?

I thought Beloved Infidel was a great movie--very entertaining. It was set in the late 1930s (1939?) but the costumes/hair and everything was 1950s! Did that bother anyone else? I had to keep reminding myself that it was 1939, not 1959 as the attire suggested.

LEND AN EAR, I implore you, this comes from my heart: I'll always adore you, til death do us part.

Terrible habit of mid-century Hollywood, only truly apparent in biopics and westerns.

I just DVR'd this movie and I loved it. The only problem is that it was cut off at exactly 2:00 hrs and I missed the last 3 minutes. How did it end. The last scene I saw was his body was taken away, Deborah Kerr walks out and looks over skyline...... Help! Donna

The same thing happened to me, but fortunately I turned on the TV when it was through recording. They put Gregory Peck (F. Scott Fitzgerald) in the ambulance. Sheilah Graham (Kerr) wanders around her patio in anguish. Kerr wanders down the beach in anguish. She hears in her memory things Peck told her during the 4 years they were together. THE END

P.S.
When I switch to a satellite DVR, this won't be happening. It keeps track of what is playing and when, and if the time changes that it needs to be recording, it changes it automatically.

A year later I am replying to your post. One of my favorite things to do when viewing a film is to guess the year of it's release. I'm usually pretty good, sometimes off by a year give or take. This movie was way off in terms of the hairstyles and wardrobe etc. Very confusing to say the least. F. Scott Fitzgerald died in December of 1940 but by looking at the movie it clearly was the late 1950's...the women's clothes, hairdo's and pearls gave it all away. A pet peeve of mine for sure. Towards the end of the film Peck and Kerr go to view a Fox film...in reality Fitzgerald saw the film, "This Thing Called Love" but the movie we the audience saw was (I believe) was That Night in Rio (?) with Don Ameche, Alice Faye and Carmen Miranda. Thank heaven todays film makers, wardrobe department, costume and set designer all do a much more accurate job in portraying the time period they are reproducing.....
