So Bad It's Good??

Anyone agree??

reply

I'll agree it's bad.

The scenes inside Haunted Cave are quite well done, however, and the monster sucking blood from its victim is horrific in the extreme.

Most everything else, however, is just unbearable.

Agree with you both. The cave is quite scary, or at least scared me when I first saw the movie as a kid. The movie's got so much more plot (but not really enough to get in the way of the story...) than other monster flicks from the period. The way that the monster saves his "food" for later is really well done. Oh by the way, does anyone know anything about Kay Jennings who played Small Dove? Was/is she really Native American? I see that she is credited only with an appearance here in Beast.

This film was a staple on Saturday afternoon's "Sir Graves Ghastly" show in Detroit when I was a kid (1960"s). Just ordered the DVD and can't wait to see it. The Beast scared the hell out of me!

Gee.. I think the film is really pretty good!
Especially for being a Corman film. Yeah, it was somewhat slow, but that's alright. The film was a tight 73 minutes & it's all good. If this film had been just 5 minutes longer... Then I'd probably cry about it...

I agree with the last two posts, it really is not that bad of a film compared to other 1950 drive in horror flicks. The monster is rather creepy looking to me.. the acting aint as woody as most 1950 drive in horror-scifi flicks as well.

We can DO IT ALLLL DAY LONG, (We'll have to pay more for the light bill if we do it at night!)

I recommend Corman's autobiography but I couldn't find any mention of BFHC. Very entertaining book with contributions from Nichols, Coppola et al. By the way Corman has a new movie Camel Spiders.

I disagrre. I thought this film was a crafty and inspired blend of crime thriller and horror elements. The scenes with the monster in the cave were truly horrific and upsetting. Plus the beast was one nasty and grotesque insectoid freak!

this is a genuinely "good film. in fact, it's one of my favorite films of all time. (no foolin.) admittedly, all my taste is in my mouth, and i prefer films that are the motion picture equivalent of "fast food" (b budget sci fi and horror, martial arts, etc.). but for a low budget horror film from the late fifties, "beast from haunted cave" is authentically good. monte hellman had talent, and he brought his talent even to a project like this one.
