How much did Mario Bava direct?

Anyone know the extent of Bava's involvement in the directing of this film? I don't have Tim Lucas' expensive bio of Bava (and now I wish I did) so I don't know if this film is covered extensively in it or not.

I was impressed with how well put together this film was, considering the logistics of the different battle scenes on land and sea (and undersea). Neither Jacques Tourneur nor Bava were generally associated with epics like this. Was there a 2nd Unit director who might have lent some expertise?

Thanks.

The only extra information I've managed to gather is that Mario Bava was apparently brought in just 10 days before this movie was to premiere.
He was forced to reshoot exterior scenes because several extras were smoking cigarettes on camera!!! Perhaps this was Bava's only directional input?

Seems more like a Bava movie than one by Jacques Tourneur. Tourneur, was a good director but this isn't his type of movie. I think Bava did more than he was credited with.
