Ballad of a Soldier is one of the most compassionate, humanistic and poetically beautiful films ever made; rarely does one get the opportunity to see a film directed with so much care and tenderness. Visually, the Soviet filmmakers understood the beauty, capabilities and magic of cinematography better than anybody - which is fully displayed in Ballad of a Soldier - never neglecting the ethereal camera effects of the '20s and '30s. As previously mentioned, this is an anti-war film, however, the film is more interested in celebrating the act of kind-hearted deeds and showcasing Russians, as individuals, to be human-beings.
