Searching movies for a friend

Hi,

A friend was telling me about a very emotional black and white war movie that involved a young boy either on a journey home, or escaping a camp.....this may or may not be the right movie...but he remembers it described the boys journey and at one point he had to fight/run away from wolves. is this the right movie, does anyone know of this movie??

No,it's not this movie but you and your friend should watch this fabulous movie instead.

Maybe it's Tarkovsky's "Ivan's Childhood"? About a young boy acting as a scout during WWII. I don't remember if there's any wolves, but there's a few very memorable running scenes.
