aspect ratio ?

¿Does anyone know the original theatrical aspect ratio of The Word of Apu?

In the listings of The Apu Trilogy on eBay, it says that the aspect ratio for this film is "4:3"--but I don't know whether this is the actual original aspect ratio in which Satyajit Ray shot the film (and in which it was then presented theatrically) OR whether the film was actually filmed in a wider aspect ratio and is now being offered on eBay in some bastardized--that is, censored--version.

I was not able to find any mention of the aspect ratio for this film here on IMDb.com.
