Poor Man's Humphrey Bogart

Gerald Mohr looked and sounded like he was intended as a knock-off version of Bogart. What was the deal with the open-shirt scenes? His chest was about as attractive as the underside of a sturgeon.

I'm surprised that Mystery Science Theater never did a show about this one.

That's about word for word what I was going to post. I always thought they picked Gerald Mohr because he was like a Bogie imitation, too.

Which makes the movie kind of fun(ny} for that reason, and yes, how Mystery Science Theater missed that is beyond me (if they did miss it)

Especially on radio, where Mohr played "Phillip Marlowe"for many years, Mohr was as big as they come. But if you check out his IMDB page, you will see that he never lacked for work.

But for what it is worth, the first time I probably ever saw him was in this movie, and I did a double take wondering how they got Bogie in this relative clunker.

Don't recall specifically, but it seems to me Mohr died fairly young. But in any event, I think he was generally considered to be handsome (which Bogie wasn't) and the Bogie looks probably hurt him as much as they helped. Anyway, he was a good guy from what I can tell.

Funny, this was also the first film I ever saw him in (back in the mid-'70s), yet I never thought of him as Bogie Jr. Yes, I can see why people say it, but it's not like Mohr could pass for Bogaart's twin on his best day. Brother? Okay, maybe.

No blah, blah, blah!

God, I got tired of seeing that guy's gross chest hair and ribs through his skin. And he had a very unhealthy looking smile, too. Brrr! Sick. While watching this movie, I was wondering if I was extremely straight because I got tired of that guy's chest, or was it just universally unappealing to all sexes.

I'm gay, and he was unappealing to me. 

His co star 'Irish' is quoted as saying he was 'arrogant and very nasty' during filming.
