Trumpeters song

There was a night were they had trumpet player sitting on a set of stairs playing what I was told had something to do with death of a trumpeter or something like that.
I wish I could remember more of the show, I have always wanted to know what song it was.

Yes, I remember a trumpeter playing a eulogy for a friend that was rubbed out. Seems like a lot of the scene was shot as a shadow, either through frosted glass or on a wall.
