mr. bevis vs. mr. dingle? (preferable episode)

tell me which you prefer, if you please. i'm not very familiar with the tv episodes but know them from twilight zone radio, and i place them under the same category, both star a harmless oddball fella given opportunities from unlikely places, and both are kind of light hearted episodes, then of course there is the episode "cavender is coming" which i read is almost identical to mr. bevis, kind of a female version if you will. the radio versions have kids gathering around making hilarious remarks at the somewhat nerdy dingle, as mentioned on this board previously, comedy has a way of aging poorly, so the radio adaptations of the comedy episodes are appreciated. on the tv episode, i had rather seen the re occurring twilight zone actor burgess meredith in a dramatic episode. it wasn't until now i realised mr. bevis starred orson bean, he also stars in the great radio adaptation of the twilight zone episode "changing of the guard". another actor from the 1950's tv series also starring on 21st century radio series is h.m. wynant in my opinion on two amazing episodes, "death's head revisited" and "of late i think of cliffordville". so anyway, if you're familiar with mr. bevis and mr. dingle and care to share which is your favorite of the two, or indeed if you prefer "cavender is coming".

earth hour,
guess we'll get to know each other,
was so distracted by electricity,
this is far out for a human of 21st century,
time flies power back on,
next year for an hour we'll talk some more.

"Mr Dingle" -- if only because of that wonderful line in Serling's intro where he says the bartender "waters his drinks like geraniums."

hehe yah i agree with this

For me, Bevis just edges out Dingle. It's difficult to choose between the two as both are great episodes. I think what tips the scales in favor of Bevis is Henry Jones' wonderful portrayal of the sometimes frustrated guardian angel.

Bevis had a better ending, but Dingle had a better lead with Burgess Meredith. Henry Jones breaks the tie, so I vote for Bevis.

I certainly don't care for Cavender but for Carol Burnett, whom I always enjoy watching.

Mr. Bevis is a lighter, more fun episode than Mr. Dingle, and I suppose I like it more (I'm not strongly opinionated on this particular topic). Dingle feels mean spirited even as it's supposed to be fun. I watch it for its train wreck qualities; and for the excellent cast. There's too much bullying of poor Dingle, and I don't like seeing poor Burgess Meredith put upon yest again on a Zone.

The only episode I can recall in which he wasn't a victim is the hour long Printer's Devil, in which I suppose one would have to say he's the perp. I find the episode itself well below average even for an hour long TZ. They seemed to be running out of his ideas by the time they expanded its length.
