June Foray

June Foray, the voice of Talky Tina, has passed away at age 99. She was also the dubbed voice of Sport in the Aunt T scenes of "Bewitchin' Pool."

[Correction: Meant to say "all but the Aunt T scenes."]

Brilliant in "Living Doll." Used poorly in "The Bewitchin' Pool."

We were writing about this before on the IMDB boards. June Foray was also the voice of Chatty Cathy-- a popular doll that was the inspiration for Talky Tina. Totally creepy: https://youtu.be/7cEylsuRAHg

Thanks. But the Aunt T scenes are the only scenes where Mary Badham's real voice is used. The outdoor scenes were dubbed by June Foray. (the original sound was deemed unusable due to wind or something like that)

Thanks for posting. June Foray was a true icon in the area of voice acting.

You're right. I meant to say something like "all but the scenes with Aunt T" and typed it incorrectly. Thanks for pointing this out.

Thanks. The concept of the "Bewitchin Pool" was very good, but the dubbing and the spoiler at the start of the episode really ruin this story.

I love the scene at the end where Sport hears her concerned parents calling her name but pays them little mind since their voices, as well as the memory of them, is becoming fainter and fainter the longer she and Jeb elect to remain with Aunt T.

I always thought of this as "A Stop At Willoughby" for kids. And while only a significant overhaul would make "Pool" anywhere near the classic "Willoughby" is your absolutely right that the concept is an intriguing one. Too bad this wasn't done earlier on when a little more time and effort would have probably been invested in it.

You raise a very interesting point there. The escapist fantasy is very similar.

We lost another legend RIP.

reply

Yep, just read about it. She did get to live a long life. And what a career, too.

Who would be the modern equivalent of June Foray?

reply

In all honesty I don't think there is a modern equivalent of June Foray - simply because her career spanned 80+ years and covered such a broad range. By her own accounting, she started out in radio dramas at age 12 and her last credited appearance was in 2014.
