i don't understand the name of this show, they never say the many loves

of dobie gillis ni the beginning credits of this show or in the end credits of this show, they just say dobie gillis. so how can this show be called the many loves of dobie gillis?

reply

Just watched season 1 episode 4 (The right triangle) and they show a title card that said
"The many loves of Dobie Gillis"
Maybe you missed it?

reply

It only had that title in the first season.

reply

That was the real title. Deal with it.

Sheesh!

A lot of shows back then had more than one title. Usually they'd start out with something catchy (e.g., the "many loves" angle), but when the show had caught on and people (including the TV listings) had begun referring to it by another name, they'd sometimes change the name in the on-screen and/or spoken credits.

For example, You'll Never Get Rich aka Bilko (the lead character) or the Phil Silvers Show (the star), The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet aka The Nelsons (their last name), and Toast of the Town aka Ed Sullivan (the host).

That's the name of the book on which it was based. I've never seen the show, but the book, and everything else I've read by Max Shulman, is utterly hilarious.
